VIDES is striving to work continually with our host communities – those who have hosted our projects in the past.  Recently, VIDES worked in Barrhead, Glasgow with the community who hosted our summer projects.  We ran workshops with local primary schools for their top juniors entitled ‘Stepping Up To Leadership.’  We encouraged all the juniors to think about being role models in their school and helping those who were younger than themselves.  In the evening, we worked with local young adults with the theme of ‘Salesian Leadership.’  We encouraged them to reflect on the qualities of a Salesian leader and how we might view ‘success’ as a Salesian leader.  Our discussions were deep, reflective and fun!

362.jpg - 4.71 Mb What the volunteers said : " The children and young people of North Horr are so alive in their faith...their witness just reminds me of how much God loves His people."

North Horr, 6 hours from the nearest town....nothing grew there.....communication with the rest of Kenya was rare....but for our volunteers, this small desert village will remain in their hearts forever. In temperatures of 140 degrees, days were spent laughing, dancing and singing with the most beautiful children ever. These children were so grateful for our presence, and yet completely unaware of how much they were giving to us. The chuch of North Horr was the centre of the village, the children made it their home, looking after it and treating it with love and respect.  Music could always be heard and dancing outside  to songs of praise and worship was a common occurence.
