VIDES for Youth

'VIDES for Youth' began with one simple question to the committee two years ago; "Wouldn't it be great if VIDES could bring the young people from the different camps together, where we give them the opportunity to build new friendships, share 'cultures' and find out more about VIDES? It could act as a 'stepping stone' into the 'world' of VIDES for 14-16 year olds.

And so, VIDES For Youth was born!

After much discussion the final aims of the weekend were drawn up:

• To provide an opportunity for young people (14-16 years) to be introduced to the idea of volunteering.
• To learn more about VIDES
• To meet and get to know young people from different places in the UK crossing bridges of prejudice, sharing cultures and building new friendships.
• To take part in team building activities that will help the young people 'bond' as a group.

Youths come from all around UK including Millom, Battersea, Purley, Scotland and Newcastle. It is a well-balanced weekend that is both educative and fun. Many VIDES volunteers give up their time to be with the young people. The weekend offers VIDES the opportunity to challenge the young people to look at what VIDES has 'done' and 'been' for them in the past and how VIDES can support them in the future. It gives them the opportunity to explore how they can get involved with VIDES in their local area or nationally.

VIDES for Youth gives us HOPE for the future!
