Renfrewshire, Scotland Camp

The Beginnings
Back in the year 2001, VIDES UK was invited to step on Scottish soil for the first time. The people of Renfrew opened their doors to welcome VIDES UK into their local community.

The Project
Place: Renfrewshire, Scotland Formation Camp 2005
Aims:
  • To provide a ten day VIDES project for children and young people.
  • To offer formal and informal educational activities in a safe and friendly environment.
  • To work alongside and empower people in their local communities.
  • To break down barriers of prejudice and build positive relationships between different groups in their local area.
Volunteers: Volunteers must be 17-30 years old, members of VIDES UK and, if coming from abroad, must be able to speak English. On average there are between 20-35 volunteers who take part in the VIDES camp.
Project: The VIDES UK Formation Camp is run and organised by a group of VIDES volunteers. The volunteers move into an area and spend ten days running a VIDES camp/project for the children and young people. The project caters for 7 - 11 year olds during the day and 12 - 16 year olds in the evening. The volunteers offer a range of activities such as music, art and crafts, sport, games, dance and social educational activities. The formation camp also facilitates the growth and development of the volunteer through working as part of a team, living in community, planning and preparing activities and ongoing training through experiential learning.
Children: 100-150 every day
Young people: 30-50 every evening
